How to Blog

I’m really torn about how I want to treat this whole blog thing. I really just set it up to play with the software, but I’m trying to get into the habit of posting on here every day. I can’t decide if I want to spend more energy on my daily wonderings or put more energy into my technical stuff. my worry is that im going to isolate myself from both readerbases by trying to do both. Any thoughts?

  1. I think you are right. If you are too tech you will loose all of us non geek folk. but too if you go all personal like it would be simmular to posting your jurnal and that is just a little too private for me. So the only thing that i can think of is just write about what interested you that day or what ever, but keep in mind we are not all as geek as you.

    - all your base are belong to us

  2. Well, if you don’t mind advice from a complete stranger, here goes:

    1. Remember that you are potentially talking to millions of people, not all of whom have the same educational background as you do. This means you may have to watch your jargon — the language you use everyday at work. If you use a term that you think is unfamiliar, don’t be afraid to take some time to explain it.

    2. Also remember that, because it’s a public forum, if you want to keep something private, don’t mention it on your blog.

    3. Write about things that interest you, that you think people ought to know about. While I sometimes blog about politics, I’m more of a nut about animation and sequential art, so I blog mainly about that.

    4. Don’t worry about readership. As people with shared interests begin to blog more, you’ll eventually discover your niche. One way to help yourself is to check other blogs and see what they have to say.

    Hope this helps.
