It really bothers me how some of the podcasts I listen to organize their ID3 data. It would be really awesome if everyone could adhere to a specific standard. Here is my proposal:
Artist: Artist’s Name
Album: Name of Show
Track Name: Name and/or Date of Episode
Track Number: Episode/Issue Number
Disc Number: Season/Volume if applicable
Genre: Podcast or at least use the word “Podcast” in there.
This would make it so much easier to find the show/episode in iTunes, MusicMatch, on an iPod, or (probably) any other player.
Here’s a couple examples:
Artist: Adam Curry
Album: Daily Source Code
Track Name: 2004-10-11: GWB Singers
Track Number: 10 (I don’t know the real episode number here)
Disc Number: 1
Genre: Podcast
This would make it so much easier to find in a large music library/make smart playlists. Maybe someone out there has a better scheme than what I’ve suggested. I’d love to hear it. I would really be happy with anything as long as people could agree on it. As things stand, I have to manually edit the tags of every track I get so it doesn’t get lost in my library.
