Everyone Wants to be Apple

Sony has never been very good at making software. See here.

The Nano has come. It is, as expected, a combination of the expected announcements of “holy crap” proportions. It’s basically a shuffle with more memory, a click wheel, and a color screen. This thing is small.

Also worth mentioning, Motorola released the new ROKR E1 phone that has an iTunes client built right in. It’s not nearly as cool as this little device, but worthy of mention.

Jobs is going to be giving a keynote later on this month. Expect some non music related product announcements. I’m still hoping for that tablet Powerbook.

Mars Edit

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

Just found this app called Mars Edit after listening to a podcast. I’m only testing it for the first time now, but DAMN. This is freakin’ cool. Basically, it’s a blog editor software for the mac. So instead of logging on to Blogger.com to create this post, I just launch Mars Edit and type away. The interface resembles an email application with a list of my posts and New/Edit/Delete buttons at the top.

While I can’t give this app my full recomendation just yet, I am going to test it out for the next week or so and let you know what I think. At the very least, I think anybody out there with a Mac should download the free trial and give this app a whirl. Even if I don’t like it, you may. I’ve heard some people swear by it.

I’m gonna have to play with all the advanced features before I make my final review. Stay tuned.

Update: Found some cool stuff and some not so cool stuff:

  • There is a really cool feature for advanced users that allows you to plug your blog template into the editor so it can preview your post using your real formatting info. (Really good for those of use that use custom CSS classes for formatting our posts).
  • There doesn’t seem to be any way to edit the meta data of the posts. Specifically, I can’t figure out how to put a title on this post. This missing feature could actually kill this app for me. Hopefully I’m just missing something.

Update: Looked online about the title thing. It looks like it isn’t currently supported, but they’re working on it for the next rev. I’ve got a 30 day trial, so I’m going to wait a bit to buy this app. Once they’ve got full Blogger support, I will probably buy this unless I find something I really don’t like.

Bella had her first day of obidient school. Here is a lovely shot of her cowering at Kristen’s feet during play time.
