MacBook

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

I finally got one! This afternoon, at the Apple store, I finally decided I could not wait any longer. I bought a MacBook. And it’s glorious.

I’m still planning on upgrading the hard drive and RAM, but the performance is already quite acceptable. It’s way faster than my Mac mini. It seems that most apps that I use regularly are already available as Universal Binary (meaning they’ll run just as well on the old G4 and G5 chips as well as the new Intel chips). The only thing I haven’t been able to get for this system so far is Flip4Mac, which is a plugin for Quicktime for playing Windows Media Files.

I’m downloading Parallels Desktop for Mac, which will let me run Windows (ugh) within my Mac, so I can test out stuff in IE and whatnot without needing another machine, or even to reboot my current machine. It’s recommended that you have a lot of RAM for such a piece of software as you actually have both OS’s in memory at the same time, but that will just have to wait.

Also, I went to Seattle. I haven’t had a chance to update my pics from my camera yet, but here’s the view from the Space Needle.

I’m Back!

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

Well, I finally managed to get my web server back online. I neglected to mention that I got a new job. And, since my webserver was plugged into the network at work, I had to take it down when I left. So, now my server is safely tucked away on the floor in my kitchen, plugged into my DSL. In the very near future, the server is going to go down yet again as I move it to somewhere more secure. I’m thinking about Mac Mini Colo. Anybody have any experience with them?
